Michigan Rising Action, a conservative advocacy group, is calling for a complete audit of every election that Southfield City Clerk Sherikia Hawkins has overseen throughout her career as an elections official.

Hawkins, 38, of Southfield, was charged Monday, Sept. 23, with six felony counts of forgery and other alleged violations in connection with the November 2018 election.

“The charges against Ms. Hawkins are extremely troubling and must be fully investigated. The integrity of our elections is essential to the protection of our constitutional rights and individual liberty,” said Tori Sachs, executive director of Michigan Rising Action. “We are calling for a full audit of every election that Ms. Hawkins oversaw in her capacity as an elections official.”

Hawkins was elected Southfield clerk in November 2017. Before that, she served as Pontiac city clerk, an appointed position.

Hawkins has overseen a total of 16 elections in Oakland County and began working in government in 2010 as deputy city clerk in Pontiac, according to a statement from Michigan Rising Action.
