Ahead of the 2020 state legislative session and national liberals descending upon this battleground state, Michigan Rising Action has released an “Opportunity & Accountability Agenda,” outlining conservative principles to guide legislators and thought leaders on policy issues that matter most to Michiganders.

The agenda gives broad recommendations on the following issues and priorities:

  • Stop the Whitmer Gas-Tax increase and any tax increases that don’t ensure current funds and existing revenue for infrastructure are maximized effectively
  • Ensure an open and fair state budget process that does not use children or critical services as pawns
  • Provide equitable funding for all public schools with a focus on choice, accountability, and quality
  • Increase state-government transparency
  • Defend employer-sponsored and private health insurance from Medicare-for-All
  • Lower healthcare costs by expanding access, affordability & competition in the healthcare marketplace
  • Protect Michigan jobs and tax-payers from the job-killing and high-taxing “Green New Deal”
  • Support trade policies like the USMCA that will help the local economy

The state legislature should use the nearly $60 billion state budget effectively to address challenges at the state level. By focusing on expanding career options, bolstering the economy through small business, and using a small and efficient government, we will see greater opportunities for all Michiganders.

Michigan is the birthplace of the middle-class American Dream achieved through hard work and today’s far-left radical policies would replace that dream with universal dependency on government. This is a pivotal time in Michigan’s future and we must focus on how conservative policies will continue to create opportunities to increase success while the far-left pursues a future where everyone is dependent on the government. – Tori Sachs, Executive Director of Michigan Rising Action
