New Lawsuit Claims Michigan County Has More Registered Voters Than People Who Can Vote

The integrity of our elections is essential to the protection of our constitutional rights and we are calling for a full audit into who received absentee ballot applications in Michigan given these troubling revelations.

A new lawsuit claims at least 16 Michigan counties’ voter rolls have not been properly maintained, leaving them vulnerable to fraud in November’s election. Fox News detailed the lawsuit filed today against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, Bureau of Elections Director Jonathan Brater and other officials:

“In one county, the number of registered voters actually exceeded the number of people of voting age. “Comparing the registered voter count to the 2014-18 American Community Survey reveals that Leelanau County has a registration rate of 102%,” the complaint says. In 15 other counties mentioned in the lawsuit, that percentage is above 90 percent.”

Last week, the Barry County Sheriff publicly stated that a ballot application for a deceased person was sent to him.

Barry County Sheriff: “The facts are that I received a ballot application for someone who has not lived here for over 20 years and is deceased. The potential for fraud is there.”

Fox 17 reports that Sheriff Dar Leaf asked voters to hand over any ballot applications sent to the wrong address.

Secretary Benson appeared before a Senate committee today to provide brief testimony but did not answer any questions. Former Secretary of State and current State Senator Ruth Johnson expressed frustration that Benson did not take the time to answer questions.

Secretary Benson needs to explain why someone who is deceased is receiving an absentee ballot application. The integrity of our elections is essential to the protection of our constitutional rights and we are calling for a full audit into who received absentee ballot applications in Michigan given these troubling revelations a deceased individual received one while at least 16 counties’ voter rolls are not accurate. – Tori Sachs, executive director of Michigan Rising Action.
