Whitmer Named DNC Vice Chair During Trip To D.C.

Michiganders deserve a governor focused on the job they elected her to do rather than pursue national political ambitions.

January 22, 2021

Governor Gretchen Whitmer made headlines this week for flouting her own COVID orders by attending Joe Biden’s inauguration with thousands of people after telling Michiganders to stay home during the holidays. Attending Biden’s celebration wasn’t the only item on Whitmer’s agenda during her visit to the nation’s capital, she was also officially named a Vice-Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Whitmer was nominated by Biden for the DNC role after her attempts at auditioning to be his Vice President were ultimately unsuccessful.

Ingrid Jacques, deputy editorial page editor at The Detroit News recently wrote that Whitmer is clearly focused on her future national political aspirations and that the “DNC job will make Whitmer more partisan.” Jacques further stated

“As the governor raises her national profile, the state remains plagued by serious problems that deserve Whitmer’s full attention, such as a sluggish vaccine rollout and continued lockdowns that are placing the livelihoods of thousands in jeopardy.”

Gov. Whitmer’s appointment to help lead the DNC shows just how hyper-focused on national partisan politics Whitmer has become while Michiganders continue to suffer from her misguided policies.
