State Representative Steve Johnson told the House Oversight Committee today that Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration refused to answer questions regarding the classification of nursing home deaths related to COVID-19 and discrepancies between the state’s and CDC’s data.

Lawmakers Call For Investigation

Michigan lawmakers have sent letters calling on the state attorney general and U.S. Department of Justice to investigate Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s COVID-19 nursing homes executive orders that placed patients with COVID in the same facilities as people without the virus. 


In an op-ed in the Detroit Free Press, State Senator Curt VanderWall stated, “Michigan needs to investigate its own nursing home tragedy.” He continued: 

Instead of following the lead of her counterpart in New York, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel flatly refused to investigate Gov. Whitmer’s decision. And unlike their colleagues in the New York Senate and State Assembly, Michigan House and Senate Democrats have remained silent.
