ICYMI Whitmer Tried To Use Police to “Aggressively” Enforce COVID Rules
Lansing, Mich., June 15, 2021 – In case you missed it, the Detroit News reported last week that Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s administration attempted to recruit police departments to “aggressively” enforce her COVID-19 restrictions.
“Members of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration encouraged local police agencies in October to more aggressively help the state enforce restrictions on mask-wearing and social distancing — invitations they declined — according to emails released through an open records request.”
The communication between the Whitmer administration and law enforcement officials was uncovered after Judicial Watch successfully FOIA’d over 1200 pages of emails from the Whitmer administration regarding the rollout and implementation of her COVID-19 restrictions.
The revelation comes as Governor Whitmer faces widespread criticism for repeatedly breaking the COVID restrictions she imposed on the rest of the state.
“During the same time Gretchen Whitmer and senior members of her administration were flagrantly violating her COVID rules, she attempted to use law enforcement resources to go after everyday citizens,” said Eric Ventimiglia, executive director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Michiganders should be disturbed by Whitmer’s boundless hypocrisy, and she should be ashamed for ever entertaining the pursuit of such a gross executive overreach.”
