This week The Guardian reported that Governor Gretchen Whitmer has hired an out of state campaign strategist in a desperate attempt to salvage her bid for re-election.
“Whitmer, a first term Democratic governor, has hired Preston Elliott, a veteran campaign manager, as the Michigan gubernatorial election looms, according to multiple Democrats with knowledge of Elliott’s hiring.”
Preston Elliot has a track record of running far-left candidates throughout the nation, and his presence in Michigan sends a clear message about where Whitmer plans to take our state if she is re-elected.
“Governor Whitmer knows that the people of Michigan have had enough of her destructive policies and this new hire is a desperate attempt to cling to power,” said Mike Banerian, communications director for Michigan Rising Action. Banerian continued, “No matter who Whitmer brings in to try and turn her re-election bid around, she will not be able to dig out of the hole her reckless policies have put her in.”
This new hire comes after a series of failures caused Whitmer to take a large hit in recent polling, which showed her down 8 points in three months. Governor Whitmer’s hypocrisy and failed leadership throughout the coronavirus pandemic have garnered increased scrutiny over the last year, and even as the state sheds her burdensome restrictions, she continues to hamper Michigan’s economic recovery. Whitmer recently announced an expansion of the already expanded unemployment benefits, which have incentivized workers to stay at home and not work, causing a massive labor shortage in Michigan.
