Rashida Tlaib Receives Thousands in Rental Income While Advocating Eviction Moratorium
Lansing, Mich., August 17, 2021 – Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib reported collecting up to $50,000 in unearned rental income on her annual public financial disclosure. Fox News reports:
“Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s annual financial disclosure shows that she made thousands of dollars in rental income last year, despite being a co-sponsor of a bill to cancel rent during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Tlaib has been a vocal advocate for eviction moratoriums, including the recent extension issued by President Biden. That extension has been challenged by landlords in multiple jurisdictions, including a lawsuit filed this week in Detroit.
“Rashida Tlaib’s hypocrisy is stunning and an insult to every landlord who is unable to collect rent from tenants to make ends meet,” said Eric Ventimiglia, executive director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Her leading voice on rent cancellation while collecting tens of thousands in rent is yet another example of Democratic ‘rules for thee, not for me’.”
