Michigan Republicans Reject Wasteful $3.5 Trillion Budget Plan

August 25, 2021

Lansing, Mich., August 25, 2021 – Michigan Republican delegation stood up for taxpayers yesterday and voted to reject a reckless, $3.5 trillion budget plan as inflation skyrockets. Congressman Upton voiced his strong opposition on social media, releasing the following statement on twitter:

“There’s been no GOP input at all on the Dems’ reckless $3.5 TRILLION budget. As inflation runs rampant, we need to turn off the printing presses & identify where there’s real need for investment. Future generations can’t afford this irresponsible spending.”

Congressman Tim Walberg had strong words for the bill too, and gave the Detroit News this statement regarding the Democrat plan:

“This is the height of arrogance and cynicism about the voters of their districts, that they could be duped into believing that these Democrats supported something that they were fully behind,”… “It’s so convoluted.”

Other Michigan Republicans including Jack Bergman, Bill Huizenga, Peter Meijer, John Moolenaar, and Lisa McClain also voted against  the plan. Michigan is already lagging behind the rest of the country in economic recovery post-COVID, and can ill-afford harmful tax increases as a result of Democrat pet projects. Many are questioning if this socialist wish list is really focused on the American people, or if it’s more political games in Washington.

“The substance of this budget plan is merely a political gesture, not a real plan aimed at really stimulating our fledgling economy,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Our state needs creative ideas to address inflation and representatives who will be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Here in Michigan, we are fortunate to have representatives like Fred Upton and Peter Meijer who are fighting for just that.”
