‘Independent’ Redistricting Commissioner Revealed as Radical Leftist, Bernie Sanders Supporter
Lansing, Mich., August 31, 2021 – A prominent ‘independent’ member of Michigan’s redistricting commission lied on his application and is actually a radical leftist. Anthony Eid has endorsed several far-left, even socialist candidates including Bernie Sanders and Abdul El-Sayed, who ran to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s left in the 2018 democratic primary. The five ‘Independents’ including Eid play a heightened role in Michigan’s new redistricting process. The Washington Free Beacon reports:
“Eid now holds a crucial vote on the 13-member commission, which consists of four Democrats, four Republicans, and five independents. In order to enact a proposed map, at least seven members—including two Democrats, two Republicans, and two independents—must vote for it. The boundaries will stay in place until the next census in 2030.”
It is alarming how easily Eid was able to manipulate the new system. With the five members listed as independents having more of a voice in the final version of the maps, many across Michigan are worried about other far-left ideologues potentially posing as ‘independents’ on the committee.
“This revelation raises serious questions about the credibility of the supposedly ‘independent’ redistricting committee,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Michiganders voted for the creation of this commission to remove politics from the redistricting process, not exacerbate it.”
