Rules for Thee, Not for Me (Again): Whitmer Takes Weekend Getaway to Aspen as Michigan Floods (Again)

August 31, 2021

Lansing, Mich., August 31, 2021 – Thousands of people across Southeast Michigan are again experiencing catastrophic flooding, prompting Governor Gretchen Whitmer to request a Presidential Disaster Declaration. However, the Governor didn’t let the ongoing emergency affect her travel plans, as she left Michigan for a luxury vacation to Aspen to attend an event for the Democratic Governors Association. Back in Metro Detroit, families are desperate for help, as detailed in a segment from WDIV:

Another out of state trip has Michigan residents wondering if the Governor ever believed in her oppressive  policies throughout 2020. Last year, when COVID transmission rates were lower, Whitmer encouraged Michigan residents to avoid non-essential travel. Her trip to Colorado comes during a period of higher transmission rates, and is the latest violation of her own arbitrary rules. Whitmer’s constant hypocrisy has infuriated the people of Michigan who are still struggling to recover from her lockdown orders and restrictions.

“As Globe-Trekkin’ Gretchen continues her summer of vacations, many Michigan families are literally underwater,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Florida, the Landshark, and now Aspen. Michigan families are furious that Whitmer continues racking up skymiles on opulent getaways while neighborhoods flood.”
