ICYMI: Haley Stevens Skips Crucial Votes for Vacation

September 21, 2021

Lansing, Mich., September 21, 2021 – Earlier this month, Rep. Haley Stevens skipped several critical votes in Washington D.C. to go on vacation to northern Michigan. Among the amendments voted on in Stevens’ absence include legislation relating to the $3.5 trillion tax-and-spend liberal wishlist. The Washington Free Beacon reports

“The trip coincided with two House Committee on Education and Labor markup sessions during which members voted on an array of amendments to Biden’s $3.5 trillion spending plan.”

Rep. Stevens also missed a vote on an amendment pertaining to national security. The amendment specified that funds from the $3.5 trillion could not be used to fund “Confucius Institutes” at colleges and universities. Such institutes are funded by the Communist Chinese government, and Stevens’ absence serves as tacit approval. Breitbart reports:

“The report stated one of the amendments she missed would have prohibited funds from the bill from being used at universities that host Chinese government-funded Confucius Institutes.”

Stevens’ vacation comes directly after a month-long congressional recess. She apparently could not be burdened to show up to votes which have national security implications and would dramatically raise taxes on the families and businesses in her district.

“As the people of Southeast Michigan look to Haley Stevens for leadership, she took a vacation and skipped committee votes of critical importance to our state,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Hardworking Michiganders cannot afford to skip work right now, and they certainly can’t afford a massive tax hike being pushed by Democrats in Washington.”
