Lansing, Mich., September 30, 2021 – Today, Senate Democrats voted no on four common-sense election reform bills. The bills are supported by County & Municipal Clerks, the Michigan Township Association, and the Michigan Democratic Party even supports one. Although the legislation bolsters election security and creates creating more polling locations making it easier to vote, Democrats still tried to block the bills which passed along party lines.
The four measures would:
Democrats have spent the last year claiming to support clerks while vilifying Republicans for “making it harder to vote.” As Senate Republicans pass legislation supported by local clerks that creates more voting locations, provides better training for election day workers, and protects voting machines from outside influence, Democrats scoff at it in the name of partisan politics.
“Michigan Democrats proved today that they care more about scoring political points than actually broadening voters’ rights,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Today’s votes showed that Michigan Democrats are more concerned with politics than the people they represent.”
