Lansing, Mich., October 3, 2021 – Moments ago, Governor Whitmer vetoed four common-sense election measures, which were approved with bipartisan support in the House of Representatives.
The four measures would have:
Whitmer has constantly vilified Republicans and the legislature this past year for “making it harder to vote.” These bills do nothing that could be interpreted as restrictions to voting. The bills would have provided better training for election day workers, protected voting machines from outside influence, and even made it easier to vote by creating more voting locations. Yet, Whitmer still vetoed the plan in the name of partisan politics- to the chagrin of local clerks and even members of her own party.
“This is just the latest example of Gretchen Whitmer’s politics getting in the way of actually governing,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “This veto shows that Whitmer is more concerned with politics than the people they represent. If this package had four Democrat sponsors, she would hold a press conference calling it an achievement in voters rights.”
