Slotkin Joins Biden in Howell to Promote Failed Agenda
Lansing, Mich., October 5, 2021 – Joe Biden and Elissa Slotkin visited the Operating Engineers training center in Howell to stump for their reconciliation plan that would cost taxpayers trillions. The plan would fund an expansion of cradle to grave government services and the Green New Deal liberal wishlist peddled by extreme liberals Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Though Slotkin has maintained silence on the $3.5T reconciliation and infrastructure bills, she has consistently voted along party lines, and her appearance with Biden today strongly suggests she will support the package. “The visit to Slotkin’s district, narrowly carried by Republican Donald Trump in 2020, is part of the sales effort. Slotkin supports a bipartisan $1 trillion infrastructure bill that has passed the Senate but prefers passing it in the House before negotiating the broader $3.5 trillion package of social programs.”
Slotkin currently finds herself in a position of political limbo regarding Biden’s unpopular policies. During her tenure in the House, Slotkin has tried to build an image of a pragmatic, independent thinking Democrat to pander to Southeast Michiganders. That facade has crumbled by consistently toeing the party lines, voting with Nancy Pelosi over 95% of the time. Now, Slotkin is singling out actual center-left Democrats in the Senate while searching for an “off-ramp” so that she and Democrats can save face and look less incompetent.
The Biden presidency is in dire straits. After manufacturing a foreign policy crisis in Afghanistan and failing to execute his domestic agenda, Biden is desperate for a win. Attending this event with Biden demonstrates tacit support for those blunders, and by supporting Biden and the watered-down Green New Deal, Slotkin bears responsibility for his constant miscues.
