False Start: Nessel Drinks Too Much Too Early, Was Assisted Out of the Michigan/Michigan State Game in Drunken Stupor

Lansing, Mich., November 10, 2021 – Dana Nessel started the party early during the annual Michigan/Michigan State game. The Attorney General got so intoxicated that she was escorted out of Spartan Stadium in a wheelchair. Drinking in East Lansing on a gameday is nothing out of the ordinary, but for the state Attorney General to drink to the point of sickness mid-game reflects poorly on her judgment and is a stain on Michigan’s reputation. Further concerns are being raised regarding the timing of Nessel’s statement. The game and subsequent incident occurred 11 days ago, yet Nessel waited nearly two weeks to release a statement. The incident leaves many questioning whether Nessel is genuinely sorry or just sorry she got caught.

“When you are elected to be the top law enforcement official in the state, you are held to a higher standard,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action, Ventimiglia continued, “People drink at tailgates, and that is perfectly acceptable behavior. It is an embarrassment to the State of Michigan for our top prosecutor to have been drunkenly carted out of a stadium. It is unbecoming of her office.”
