Out of Touch and Wrong: Elissa Slotkin Misses the Mark on Critical Race Theory in Michigan Schools
Lansing, Mich., December 9, 2021 – During a tele-town hall meeting earlier this year, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin told concerned constituents that schools were not teaching Critical Race Theory. Those remarks conflict with recent comments by the superintendent of Detroit schools, who clearly stated that CRT is deeply ingrained in their curriculum. The Daily Caller reports:
“During a tele-townhall meeting in August, Slotkin addressed parents’ concerns about critical race theory allegedly being taught in schools statewide. Slotkin told constituents that critical race theory is not being taught in a single school in the state of Michigan.”
Slotkin’s remarks from August and her staff’s previous ties to a local pro-CRT group are worrisome for parents concerned with what their children are being taught.
“Michigan parents deserve to have a say in their children’s education, and Elissa Slotkin lied to them by claiming Critical Race Theory wasn’t being taught in our schools,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Rather than continually dodge questions about the issue, Slotkin should immediately explain her position on CRT and apologize for misleading her constituents.”
