Whitmer Announces The End of Mask Mandates After Pollster Says They Poll Poorly
Lansing, Mich., March 1, 2022 – The same day Gretchen Whitmer announced her re-election bid, the Governor lifted mask mandates for state employees after her pollsters said it was terrible politics. For the past two years, Whitmer assured Michigan families she was following the science and data when implementing her COVID restrictions yet never specified what data she was referencing. Looking at the Governor’s campaign expenditures, Michiganders can see which data she follows: the polling data.
A recently published internal memo written by Democrat pollster Impact Research advised Democrats that COVID-related mandates are politically disastrous and Democrats should try to “take the win” on COVID-19 and move on. Whitmer has paid for advice and research from Impact, formerly named Anzalone Liszt Grove Research, leading Michiganders to question if the Governor’s COVID policies have been guided by polling, rather than science. It’s curious timing for Whitmer with her reelection kicking off and tonight’s State of the Union address.
“The publicly available science and data has never backed up Gretchen Whitmer’s destructive COVID policies,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “These bread crumbs left behind by Whitmer’s campaign finance report suggest that the Governor has been using polling data to make decisions that greatly impact Michiganders’ everyday lives.”
