Lansing, Mich., March 3, 2022 – As the condition of Michigan’s roads continues to deteriorate, and gas prices approach the ominous $4 mark, Gretchen Whitmer is taking a break and heading to California to fundraise for her campaign. While Michigan families grapple with the many adverse effects of inflation and renewed attention over crater-sized potholes, the Governor is enjoying the warmer weather in Southern California while hob-nobbing with liberal elites in Beverly Hills mansions.

Current inflation rates are historically tough on Michigan families right now, with food prices up 8%, energy up 24%, and transportation up 22%, costing the average household an additional $391 per month. This trip is the second time Whitmer has traveled to California for fundraising in the past few months and like the Governor’s last California trip, the timing comes when Michiganders are struggling. In November, Whitmer’s three-city fundraising tour came when Michigan led the nation in COVID cases.

“As the people of Michigan deal with the rising expenses of everyday life under Gretchen Whitmer’s leadership, the Governor is MIA,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Whitmer continues to show a greater interest in raising campaign funds off of coastal elites than addressing the serious issues affecting Michigan families.”
