Whitmer and Biden Deny Reality of Recession

Lansing, Mich., July 28, 2022 – At a recent event, Governor Whitmer shared her view of Michigan’s economy, stating Michigan is experiencing “the best economic recovery in our state’s history,” and continued “you might not be feeling it yet”.

For Michigan residents struggling with the impacts of record inflation, the stark reality of today’s GDP numbers only confirms what they already know: the Biden-Whitmer economy is in a recession.

For leading Democrats like Whitmer and Biden, it has become standard practice to deny the economic struggles facing hardworking Michiganders while attempting to convince them everything is ‘okay’.

“While Michigan families are struggling, Governor Whitmer and President Biden are spending their time cherry-picking statistics to give themselves political cover,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Gretchen Whitmer is radically out of touch with the realities that Michigan families are facing due to the reckless policies that she and Biden have pursued.”

Governor Whitmer had opportunities to provide relief to Michigan families suffering from inflation but instead: 

• Vetoed the gas tax suspension
• Vetoed tax exemptions for seniors
• Vetoed child tax credits
