Lansing, Mich., February 6, 2023 – Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced a plan to provide a one-time, $180 “inflation relief check” to Michigan families. The Detroit News reports:
“Under the plan, the $180 refund checks would be issued based on a tax return filed with the state, meaning married couples filing jointly would get a single $180 check. An unmarried couple living together and filing their taxes separately would each get a $180 check.”
The amount pales in comparison to other payments pushed by Whitmer, including:
“As Governor, Gretchen Whitmer has handed out Michigan taxpayer dollars to foreign companies, ex-employees, and without concern for fraud. With allies Winnie Brinks and Joe Tate in the legislature, Whitmer continues to put taxpayers at the end of the line,” said Eric Ventimiglia, Executive Director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Inflation costs the average Michigan household an extra $460 per month. The paltry $180 checks will barely cover 11 days worth of added inflationary costs and won’t begin to provide any meaningful relief to struggling Michigan families.”
