PAY-FOR-PLAY ALERT: Lawmakers Voting for Pro-Union Boss Education Bills Took More than $228,000 From MEA Last Election
Lansing, Mich. – House Democrats that voted to pass pro-teacher union House Bills 4354-4357 today took a combined $228,200 from the Michigan Education Association (MEA) to fund their campaigns.
“With the state budget still unfinished, you have to ask yourself why this bill package was a top priority for House Democrats. If you follow the money and follow the facts, it is painfully obvious that one of the largest unions in Michigan successfully paid for House Democrats’ help getting richer,” said Abby Mitch, Executive Director of Michigan Rising Action.
Collective bargaining agreements typically follow the public school fiscal calendar, which begins just ten days away on July 1. Any new rules coming into effect in the coming year would likely impact those agreements.
In fact, the MEA has collective bargaining agreements with Allendale, Athens Area, Bentley Community, Calhoun ISD, Clinton County RESA, Delton Kellogg, Harbor Beach, Hartland, Lakeview, Lansing, Mackinac Island, Manton, Meridian, Mt Clemens, Oak Park Schools, West Branch, and Walkerville teachers that will expire June 30.
