Pelosi Says Defunding Police Is Local Issue; Where Do Michigan Officials Stand?
Today Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi stated “funding of police is a local matter.” Democrat elected officials in America’s largest cities are proposing measures to defund police departments.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor agreed to cut $100,000 from police funding but supporters of the defund the police movement say that is not enough. Lansing is the state’s capital and located in Ingham County where Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was formerly the county prosecutor. Whitmer has yet to state whether she supports defunding the police. Whitmer oversees the state’s budget which provides financial resources to the Michigan State Police, county sheriffs, and local police.
Calls to defund the police are growing louder by the day.
