Lansing, Mich., July 12, 2021 – Over the weekend, Vice President Kamala denigrated rural Americans by claiming they didn’t have the ability to photocopy their identification cards. Harris will visit Michigan today and be welcomed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer with open arms despite her offensive comments.
WATCH:
Whitmer has received criticism for advocating for policies that are out of touch and damaging to the large rural populations in Michigan, including her effort to shut down the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline, which would increase energy costs in Michigan’s rural communities.
“Vice President Harris’s offensive assertion that rural Americans are incapable of photo-copying their ID’s is a slap in the face to thousands of rural Michiganders, and we call on Governor Whitmer to condemn her out of touch comments,” said Eric Ventimiglia, executive director for Michigan Rising Action. Ventimiglia continued, “Whitmer has a track record of throwing rural Michigan communities under the bus, and Michiganders will be watching closely today to see if she has the courage to defend them.”
