A report from Politico states that Joe Biden has chosen former Obama administration official Jeff Zients to serve as the White House’s Covid-19 coordinator and that the former U.S. surgeon general under Obama, Vivek Murthy, will return to that role, but with a broader portfolio that will include acting as the top medical expert and public face of the effort.

Vivek has also held key roles in working with Vermont Socialist Bernie Sanders to craft Biden’s health care policies which move the United States toward a Single Payer health care system.
Robert Gordon, director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, was previously named co-leader of the Biden team tasked with reviewing the actions of the federal health department. Michigan’s most recent shutdowns – including the closure of highschools and restaurants – are orders from Gordon with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s approval. Gordon’s “3-week pause” is set to expire on December 8th but he told legislators yesterday that no decision has been made yet on extending the order.
